Public art in Copenhangen

We did a little disaster trip (of 12 disasters all together to be specific, starting with losing phone, luggage and Tosin before reaching our destination) to Malmö (to visit friends) and Copenhagen at the end of May. I loved the architecture of Malmö! Copenhagen has very nice hippie community called Christiania (http://www.christiania.org/) that has c. 1000 inhabitants. The community is full of public art which I would also in the city centre… An interesting visit.

Gardening - in Arabian restaurant

As a part how we do church in Coventry Vineyard every first Sunday of a month we go to do practical stuff into community… The reason to this is that we believe we are called to make a difference in our societies; show God’s love in practical ways. God’s care and love in our own lives and the Spirit He has given us so freely inspires us to these random acts of kindness.

This month we were doing gardening for the local Arabian restaurant called Habibi.
The funny thing is that I visited this restaurant first time just a night before hearing that there is an opportunity to go there and help them with their garden. I fell in love with the place so you can imagine how eager I was to return there for the whole day! :) It was such a good fun and the weather was amazing! Yes! It’s summer also in UK now!
...and did I meantion the wondreful food they serve? Oh, it's wonderful!
After our hard work they treated us with a free meal. Sooooo good.

Treasures of Wasteland

"When we discovered the growing waste
mountains we decided to change something.
Caring for the environment took us on an
adventurous journey. We brought you some
cool souvenirs, the Treasures of Wasteland."

Having decided to go back to Finland for this summer to spend some time with my family and Finnish friends before leaving them behind again (and this time much further away and therefore for much longer time, I guess, as well.) Also, I think this might be the last time I will live in Finland this long period of time.... God knows, but this is my idea for my life anyway. SO, I started a desperate job hunting which was quite difficult from UK, but I managed to get a job interview for Easter holidays when I was visiting my brother in Helsinki, which is c.5 hours drive away from where I live. The job was to work (in many challenging ways) in this cool design shop that sells pretty art, fashion and design stuff made of recyckled materials. I was actually very excited to work with this mentality and meeting the people there who shared their exciting vision... it just seemed such a great opportunity!

So, I got the job and then finally didn't take it which seems a bit crazy -- but really: how much are you going to spend time with your family if they live 5 hours and 80 euros away from you?!

Anyway, the shop is defenitely worth introducing - I just love their products and the life style they promote!! If you ever go to Helsinki you should visit them. Take a look their website (I added it to my links: SECCO SHOP).
But not accepting this job means that I have time to start my own waste-treasure production, and develop useful skipping skills into recycling factory! :) so, don't worry I am SURE I'm not going to get bored this summer either!
Oh, and another funny thing is that and you can apply for the Wasteland citizenship, of course in practice it's just becoming a member and receiving emails of their new products and events but I thought it's quite a cool idea and really promotes the idea of developing a new community of people who care for their environment, and that way for their fellow citizens as well. I was told that this mentality is growing a lot in Finland now and I am sure I will be happy to discover that, while designers, engineers, scientists etc. work for finding more sutainable solutions, recycling in all creative ways IS becoming a strong part of contemporary life style all around the globe. [....I waaaaant to believe!!!]

Learning animation

As a final project for my studies I have to create a 1min animation.
It's only been 2,5 weeks of constant sitting in front of computer and
I can already feel the increasing need for additional yoga classes.
also my eyes don't like too much of a computer screen...

So,
from the physical point of view animation is definitely not for me,
needless to say how many times the media itself screws me over per
a day. But I'm very excited about the fact that I am able to learn these
new skills (which I am maybe able to use in some point of my life...).
Here are some images from my animation which hopefully
will be put up here by the end of May.

okay, this doesn't really have anything that much to do
with this project but I love the chair design! ;) (it's Finnish, Aero
Design Furniture's Mademoiselle rocking chair, in case you were
interested. I am not that much of a fan of Scandinavian design but
I do like some of their chairs!)

Mary - the book etchings

While I’m still trying to figure out what’s the best way to present the whole book here I wanted to put some of my etchings up. Half of the images are screen prints and half etchings. This was a great challenge to try to make these two very different printing methods to work together not only stylistically but also physically. But I carried on trying learning both because I had so much fun doing them!
